Singin' in the Rain

Today all we did was drive, because we're due to pick Karl up in Boston on Saturday, and Boston is, like, 1,000 miles from Charleston!  The day was warm and sunny, but not as miserably sweltering as yesterday, and besides, we have the "snowflake" to keep us cool.  The snowflake is the cute little button in our van for A/C.  But we don't call it A/C, we call it the snowflake, as in "Let's get the snowflake going!" or "Mom, turn off the snowflake; we're freezing back here!"

So we were cruising along, listening to music, enjoying the snowflake and putting some miles behind us, when all of a sudden the sky went nearly black.  "Mom, it looks like it's going to snow!" Brennan said. "Uh, uh," I replied.  "Snow sky is flat grey.  This is a thunderstorm."  Sure enough, not five minutes later all hell broke loose.  I quickly got off the highway, but the winds were over sixty mph, probably a lot higher.  The rain poured down in sheets so thick I couldn't see anything.  But worst of all, there was no shelter in sight, and plenty of tall trees to come crashing onto the car at any moment.  I was actually shaking I was so frightened.  In desperation, I pulled into a condo complex, which at least was devoid of trees, but there was no one in sight and no chance of shelter.  A few minutes later the rain and wind lessened slightly and I bolted for the nearest hotel.

On the news this evening I saw lots of storm damage and even a child killed by a falling tree.  Thank you God for protection and shelter!!

And now, to lighten the moment, some storm songs.  Go on, click on the links to listen to them.  They're totally fun.
